The team behind the book

Coping with Capture has been produced by Citadel Solutions’ team of specialists with experience from counter-piracy missions and the World Food Programme (WFP) in 2008 to recent deployments in 2011:

  • Military linguists, trained in communication and cultural effects,
  • Instructors in hostage survival, specialized in counter-piracy and trained in stress management, primitive first aid and basic survival,
  • A cultural expert from Somalia, specialized in counter-piracy,
  • A military crisis psychologist, trained in debriefing, psychological first aid and PTSD management and
  • Members of Naval Special Forces, who wish to remain anonymous due to security issues.

The team hopes that the information collected and systemized herein, can assist sailors all over the world in coping with the stress and anxiety entailed by piracy; the risk of attack, citadel incidents, and in event of a hijack where the crew is taken hostage.

Around year 2006/2007 when the official registration of piracy attacks began, I believed, it was the poor fishermen who were behind the attacks on foreign ships. But the Somali piracy kept increasing. Then it became a global issue an a professional business. In 2008, I began participating in conferences and forums about Somali piracy.”
